WHAT WE DO:
Habitat-NYC’s mission is to transform lives and our city by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of decent affordable housing for everyone. We build affordable housing for ownership by low-income, hardworking families. We build community by bringing new committed homeowners into the area and by reaching out to diverse local organizations. We build volunteerism by bringing an average of 10,000 people a year from different backgrounds in the neighborhoods where we are building.

WHO TO CONTACT:
Name: Ms. Judith Werner (Grants and Gifts Manager)
A little bit about me: My name is Alex Liberatore and I am a Cornerstone Office Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity. I had just started working at Habitat after working on Wall Street for many years, when the Roundtable Group at the Herman Schreiber School invited Habitat for Humanity – New York City to their party to celebrate their $200.00 grant. I had the pleasure of attending with our Volunteer Program Associate, Miss Jacqueline Duran. We arrived at this Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade school in the early afternoon and were treated to a ceremony including songs, poetry readings and a description of the fun they had raising and counting the money that was donated. I wanted to work in an office where I could help people help themselves and I don’t get paid for my work, but every day when I return to my home, I feel enriched due to the satisfaction of working towards the improvement in the quality of living for my fellow citizens in the city that I call home, New York. After meeting my new friends at the Herman Schreiber School, I had that same feeling, one that is often better than any that money can provide.
